Windows Support Center: Learn More: Windows Support Center: Learn More: About Lenovo + About Lenovo. This is a new Lenovo G570 Notebook. When two users are logged on, the Lenovo Energy Management process uses 25% CPU and the only way to stop this is for one user to sign off. The CPU usage always shows up in the inactive user. This laptop is 2 months old. I sent it in for repair due to BSODs and problems turning on/resuming from hibernation. They reinstalled the OS and updated the bios. Prior to the repair I very rarely heard the fan. The version of Lenovo Energy Management is 6.0.1.5. Lenovo has a versiojn 6.0.1.2 available on their site. Because of the downgrade in version I'm afraid to uninstall the current version and install the lower one. Also, I'm concerned about using their one-touch recovery, since I may end up with all the errors I had before. (When they reloaded the OS they used something different because when I got it back it didn't have as much bloat as it originally had.) I called support but they refused to help me without a charge since they said this is a software issue. Does anyone have a solution to this? Thank you in advance. Sincerely, Libra. Hello Libral, Perform the following troubleshooting methods: Method 1: I would suggest you to place the computer in a clean boot state and troubleshoot the issue then check if it helps. You can start Windows Vista or Windows 7 by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This kind of startup is known as a 'clean boot.' A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts. To set the computer in clean boot, follow the steps from the link: Note: After checking in clean boot, follow step: 7 from the article to reset the computer to normal boot. Method 2: Perform System File Check to fix the corrupted system files and then check how it works. Refer the link ' to perform System File Check. Note: It may ask for windows DVD to fix and to enable SFC to make more than minor repairs. Some files saved on your computer might get deleted when fixing corrupted files. Method 3: Perform the troubleshooting steps from the lin k “”, and then check if this fixes the issue. Before I get into the driver issue, let me explain what I've done. I did the clean boot of Windows and the problem of High CPU usage with switch user occurred when Lenovo Energy Management was the only item checked in start-up in msconfig. I also left Lenovo Battery Management by itself, but that caused no problem. Since Microsoft says that Windows 7 has a Power Management for a laptop, I used programs and features and uninstalled Lenovo Energy Management. I ran into some questions re the uninstall that confused me. Here's what happened: 1. Do you want to completely remove the selected application and all of its features? All devices using this driver will be removed - do you wish to continue - I said NO. Files in use: The following applications are using files that need to be updated by this setup: hkcmd module igfx tray module persistence module task scheduler engine Select: Automatically close and attempt to restart applications Do not close applications (requires reboot) I didn't know what to do so I canceled it. I got a message that if I wanted to uninstall it, to go back to programs and features. And a message from Windows saying it might not have been completely uninstalled. This was yesterday. I didn't reboot the computer untll this morning. It was uninstalled because it does not show up in msconfig startup, nor in the processes list. AND Switch User isn't using 25% CPU (since Lenovo Energy Management was removed). I do see the first three items listed above running in processes. I don't see a task scheduler engine - but I do see task host and task manager. ![]() When I looked at the Power Options in systray and control panel - High Performance and Balanced plans are shown. There is no other plan available, although MS says to look for Show Additional Plans - I don't have that. My PROBLEM: I changed the plan to Balanced and changed some settings (on battery: dim display after 1 minute, close display after 5 minutes) are not working. Also I don't know when it went to sleep, but it is suppose to go into hybernate in 30 minutes while on battery.40 minutes passed and it didn't go into hybernate. So I have fixed the high CPU problem but the Windows Power Management settings are not working. (I changed the settings in all accounts). I did change the brightness of the screen display in the power management. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ As far as the drivers go - the only Chipset driver I can find in the Device Manager is the Chipset Family USB enhanced host controller. (I found two). Version 9.2.0.1013. The version offered at the Lenovo site is 9.20.1019 dated 3/23/11. Is this the chipset driver you are referring to?
